Comedy. Comedy. Comedy.
The Wit & Wisdom of John Cantu

John Cantu was often called the godfather of the San Francisco comedy scene.
As manager of the Holy City Zoo in its heyday, he helped young comedians such as Dana Carvey
and Paula Poundstone on their way to stardom. He also wrote jokes for big-name comedians.
Earlier in his career he performed in an improv group with Robin Williams. But Cantu will be best
remembered as a teacher. Thousands of of people attended his classes on comedy or heard him
lecture on the subject. His enthusiasm was contagious and his optimism unflagging. He will be missed.
Here are some of his memorable lines. (Click the button.)
